Double-Lead Helix in Reinforced Nylon

The Challenge

A customer in the medical industry needed a double-lead helix component for adjusting compression bands. The part’s unique geometry presented a significant tooling challenge, and tolerances as tight as ±0.004” were required. All parts needed to be maintained clean for later sterilization and assembly.

The Approach

R&D Plastics co-engineered the tooling design to account for the helix geometry and ensure consistent quality. The part is made of glass-reinforced nylon and produced on a 65-ton press. Overall dimensions are 2” x 0.60”. Parts are inspected for cleanliness and straightness before shipment.

The Result

The project delivers precision components that meet demanding medical-industry requirements at a typical lead time of four weeks.
