Broad Material & Machine Capabilities

A broad selection of plastic resins and molding machines allows us to choose the exact combination that delivers the performance, quality and efficiency your part requires. The R&D team manufactures high-quality parts from commodity, engineering or high-temperature materials, thermoplastic elastomers, structural foam and more. Components can be finished with protective, cosmetic, hard or conductive coatings.

R&D reliably and efficiently produces parts from miniature to very large with a full range of in-house manufacturing equipment, including:

Uncompromising Quality. Continuous Improvement.

Whether we’re serving product innovators in emerging categories or global leaders across the medical, aerospace, electronics, transportation, recreation or defense industries, our commitment is the same: exceptionally high standards and a culture of collaboration.

Always Focused Forward

R&D Plastics is proud to serve customers in diverse industry sectors, including water treatment, medical, aerospace, transportation, consumer goods, electronics and aerospace. Cross-industry experience grows our team’s collective expertise, leading to continuous improvement that directly benefits every customer. And we continue to invest in automation when it can improve quality, capabilities or operational efficiency without compromising our high service standards.

Manufacturing customers choose R&D for a number of reasons. See if we’re a good fit or learn more about our company and what sets us apart. Or take the next step and request a quote today.

Part Cost Factors

MATERIAL SELECTION

The plastic material must meet all of the application’s physical and chemical requirements while being manufacturable in the part design.

ORDER QUANTITY

Higher volumes reduce cost in two ways: lower material pricing and setup costs spread across more parts.

LABOR CONTENT

Our goal is to minimize labor content and part cost by automating the process where it makes sense.

PACKAGING

Getting the product safely to you or the end user is factored into overall cost.

CAVITIES

More cavities in the mold generally reduces part cost — especially important for higher-volume applications.

SECONDARY OPERATIONS

Some parts require special packaging, assembly or kitting after molding, which adds to the total part cost.

PRODUCTION RATE

Part design and material selection affect how quickly the part can be molded. Since machine time is charged by the hour, faster cycle times mean lower part pricing.

Mold Cost Factors

MOLD STRATEGY

Part volume, design complexity, tolerances, surface finish, gating and material all influence the right mold approach. For smaller, simpler parts, a less expensive mold insert may be a cost-effective option.

MOLD SIZE

Larger and deeper parts require bigger molds, which generally increases cost. How a large part is gated can also significantly affect mold size and price.

NUMBER OF CAVITIES

The right number of cavities is driven by expected volume, mold cost, part cost and lead time. Our pricing model helps determine the best balance for your project.

Our Values

These six foundational principles reflect who we are and how we serve our customers, our colleagues and each other.

R&D Plastics delivers precision injection-molded parts through an integrated, engineering-driven process designed to create real, measurable value. Our team works closely with yours to anticipate issues early and optimize decisions so we get it right from start to finish.
