Material Selection Tips

We would like to understand the product end use as well as possible in order to assist you in assessing materials candidates . The material must meet the chemical, thermal and physical properties required to function in the application of the final product. The material must also be moldable into the design, meet cosmetic requirements and be cost effective. We inquire about the environment, cosmetics, cost, design, and dimension stability. All of these factors and more will be important in making materials selections.

Material Selection Considerations

Environment

A precise definition is needed of the environment in which the part is expected to function.

Aesthetics

Surface finish appearance and color determine part cosmetically. These attributes need to be defined before the mold is built.

Material Cost

The material has to be cost-effective while meeting all other requirements.

Application

Design must be appropriate for the material.

Dimensional Requirements

For tight-tolerance parts, a low shrinkage material may be preferable.
